I got in!!!! [And I Got my Host Family Info]
Hello all,
Great news. AFS Italy accepted me :D Plus, they already have my host family information. So far, all I know is that there is a mom, a dad, and three children. The youngest is a son who will be six years old, the other is another son who is two months older than my brother (he will be 15), and the eldest is a daughter who is going to be sixteen and has my same name. How cool is that??? I will be living in Palermo which is located on the island of Sicily. For those of you who don't know where that is, it is the "toe" part of the Italian boot. I am extremely excited. Now I need to figure out how I am going to raise the money because otherwise I will not be able to go. If you can donate anything, even the smallest amount, it will be a big help. Just go to the link under "Apps". Don't worry, it's safe to do lol. Well, I will be writing more soon.

I have discovered that I can update my blog via text message... How cool is that? Anyways, I just wanted to give a brief update: I submitted my full application in December but I have not received any response yet. Still waiting.

Fundraising
Hello all.
Yesterday I received the link to my full application, so I am in the process of filling that out right now.
I am going to go into a little more detail about who I am and why I want to study abroad.
To start off, I'm 16 and a student at Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School. Here are some words to describe me: outgoing, pianist, drummer, ambitious, studious, unique, Eurasian-American, and of course, there are many more.
I want to study abroad with AFS because they seem like a really experienced organization. After I started researching AFS, I told my mom about the company. To my surprise, one of her old college friends went to the Netherlands with AFS right after she graduated from high school.
I have always loved just about everything Italian. My family often jokes that I should be part Italian. I love the food, the culture, the language, and the landscape. By going abroad to Italy - or anywhere else for that matter - I will be living out my dream. I have always wanted to travel the world before I die. I even have a list of things to do before I die; it currently has 367 things to do. I would use my experiences to help educate others on different cultures and try to help people be more understanding of different cultures and ideas.
Unfortunately, I cannot finance this trip on my own. Tuition will be around $12,000 and that is not including extra expenses for things such as travel to my departure city, gifts for my host family, etc. My family is going through economic hardships and in this economy, we simply cannot afford to pay for the trip. That is why I need your help. I will soon be posting a link under my "Apps" section under the "Profile" link where you can donate for my trip. Every little bit counts, so don't think that your amount won't do anything. If enough people help out, I can raise enough money to go on this program. Obviously I don't expect for others to pay for my trip 100%. My family will contribute some. I am open to other fundraising ideas, so if you have any, please leave my a comment on the tagboard.
To sponsor my AFS program now, please click the ChipIn button. [Click "Profile" and you will see the link under "Apps"]
Thank you very much for helping me achieve my goals.

The Beginning
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Erica Sutter. I am applying to study abroad (hopefully in Italy) for the 2010-2011 school year. I have decided to start a blog so that family and friends can keep up with what I am up to. And if I get to study abroad, I will write about my experiences starting with the preliminary application (which I just submitted) all the way until I come back to the United States.
As I said before, I am applying to study abroad. I have just submitted my preliminary application to AFS (American Field Service) and am awaiting the link to my full application. Italy is my first choice, but we'll see how everything works out.
That's all for now, I promise this blog will get better once things get more exciting :)
Ciao for now.
